KUCHING: SUPP president Datuk Seri Peter Chin urges party members to talk to their relatives and friends to they would vote for Barisan Nasional candidates come the 13th general election (13GE).
Chin, who is also Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water said, for instance, members of SUPP Tupong branch could use their connections in Bandar Kuching to lobby for support.
“From where we are now, the party is indeed facing a trial by ordeal. Hence, we must solidify every support we can get from throughout the state.
“Regardless of where your relatives and friends are, convince them to support the party’s candidates,” he said at the 3rd anniversary dinner of SUPP Tupong branch here Friday evening. Describing 13GE as a battle that would cast far-reaching impact on the party, Chin said SUPP members should not take it lightly. He recalled the party lost 13 of its 19 seats in the state election last year, hoping that a similar defeat would not repeat itself in the coming polls.
“Do we want to see it happen again in next general election? Is defeat what we want to taste again?”
Earlier, SUPP treasurer Datuk David Teng said the party, under its new leadership deserved a fresh image and reputation.
“New leaders should come up with some new approaches, and they must take the courage to recommend and rectify the deviation of policies.”
Teng added that it was also time for the party’s identified candidates to be more expressive in their stance. During the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting last month, Youth chief Tan Kai was announced as the candidate to wrest Bandar Kuching from DAP while incumbents Datuk Richard Riot and Ding Kuong Hiing were to defend Serian and Sarikei respectively.
