KUCHING: The distribution of land titles for longhouse units developed by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will be done in accordance with the hierarchy practised in the longhouse, said Minister of Housing Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Under the new longhouse development concept, the owners of the units (doors) will be given individual titles and the longhouses will be built just like the ordinary terraced houses except there would be an additional feature such as the ‘ruai’ for the community to get together.
“HDC will seek advice from the ‘tuai rumah’ (chiefs) on the placing or arrangement of the ‘bileks’,” he announced at the Ngiling Bidai (Closing of Gawai) ceremony at HDC headquarters in Wisma Sultan Tengah yesterday. In his speech, Abang Johari also stressed on the importance of understanding the custom and culture of other races especially in the implementation of government programmes.
He advised HDC staff to continue to work in unity in line with the Gawai Theme “Segulai Sejalai 1HDC”.
Also present at the ceremony were the Housing Assistant Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, HDC chairman Datuk Dr Abang Drauf Abang Zen, HDC CEO Wan Mohd Yusop Wan Moss, the event’s organising chairman Michael Mullok, senior officers and staff of the Ministry of Housing, HDC and its subsidiary Daya Builders Sdn Bhd.
