We hear your cries for help, Taib assures Sarawakians

Anthony Joseph, June 5, 2012, Tuesday

BEKENU: Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has assured the people that all their woes and cries for help are heard loud and clear by the government.

He said the government would continue to address them as it sees all problems besieging the people as potentials to bring about even greater development and progress to the state.

Speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony for the proposed multi-purpose market in Bekenu town here yesterday, Taib said all state leaders served the people and state whole heartedly and with sincerity.

“They (leaders) serve with all their heart and might without thinking of gratifications and monetary gains for their service. People’s cries and woes are heard by leaders and the government.”

Taib said all leaders had been taught since day one not to see problems as problems but as potential to do something good for the state and to change people’s lives.

“But we must work on this potential and apply it to develop the state. If not the potential will remain as potential and there will be no development and progress in the state.

“It also requires both leaders and people to be always on the lookout for ways and mean to change our destiny.

“Efforts must be made to bring about changes to both the people and state. It should be the foundation and basis of our struggles.”

He told those present that the development and progress in the state over the years were due to the ability and capability of its leaders. They have transformed the state from a ‘poor’ one to a prosperous state.

“This has been our struggle for the past 50 years, and now we can see that we have turned Sarawak from a hard to develop state into a prosperous and progressive state. We want Sarawak to progress. We want the people to prosper. This is our main intention.

“Who among us dare to say we don’t want it anymore. Everyone wants it and wants it to continue. Everything has changed, but we will not stop our struggle. Everyone wants to reach a much higher level and their dreams and desires will not stop, but will continue.”

On another matter, Taib announced that a request for a sports stadium to be built in Bekenu would be tabled during the mid-term review.

Earlier, Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus requested that Bekenu be provided with a sports stadium as there were four secondary and 20 primary schools in the constituency.

Present were Taib’s wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, Miri mayor Lawrence Lai and Miri District Officer Boniface Intang Apat.
