It’s not our job to implement projects — Ho Leng

June 6, 2012, Wednesday

KUCHING: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has said that the task of implementing projects is not its responsibility but that of the government of the day, which is the Barisan Nasional (BN).

State DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng, who is Sibu MP, said this was because the government collected taxes from the people.

“The projects are funded by the people’s tax, not monies from BN politicians,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was responding to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sibu branch chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh’s statement that the DAP had done nothing for the people in Sibu since winning the parliamentary seat as well as the state seats of Bukit Assek, Pelawan and Dudong.

Ho Leng said the opposition’s job was merely to provide check and balance.

“Take a simple example, the job of laying eggs is done by the hens and not by the cocks! Does Soon Koh know this? Of course he does but in order to hoodwink for votes he will refuse to acknowledge that the hens lay eggs and not the cocks.

“Cocks’ function is to fertilise the eggs and ensure his hens and eggs are safe!” he said.

On Monday, Soon Koh also said that as the DAP had done nothing for the people, the party should be relieved of its political hold in Sibu.

“Time has passed; until today, the opposition representatives have not done anything for the people who handed them their political power.

“It is us in BN who are the real workers for the people,” Soon Koh said during a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark SUPP’s 53rd anniversary.

Soon Koh added that the time had come for the people to give the mandate to the BN government so they could return to the political mainstream.

He added that despite their political dominance, the DAP had not brought any development to Sibu and would only instigate the people to be dissatisfied with the government.
