Sarawak people get to enjoy various facilities only within three years

PUTRAJAYA: Within three years, the people in Sarawak, especially those staying in the rural and remote areas, have been able to enjoy various facilities and development benefits.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak said that an additional fund of RM2.3 billion was also approved to Sarawak during the period.

“In three years, we have done so much. Imagine if we have another five years, much more can be done.

That is why it is crucial for us to ensure Putrajaya remain in Barisan Nasional’s hands,” he said at a luncheon with community leaders from Telang Usan, Baram, in Sarawak at Seri Perdana here Thursday.

Najib said what the government had done so far was only a beginning and it wanted to do much more.

He said implementation of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) and other assistance provided by the government had been able to improve the life and livelihood of the rural community.

Najib said that since appointed the Prime Minister, he had visited Sarawak more than 50 time and had been to almost every corners of the state.

“Due to the earth structure of Sarawak, majority of the people live in the interior areas where road links, bridge, basic facilities, clean water supply, electricity supply, schools, hospitals and other facilities are crucial,” he added.

As such, he said, the concept of blue ocean strategy was used with the aim of carrying out as many development as possible with minimum cost.

He gave an example of the 73km road from Long Lopeng to Ba’kelalan, involving the construction of nine bailey bridges, which only cost RM52 million as it was carried out through the ‘Jiwa Murni’ concept.

Otherwise, the project would cost RM300 million, he added. He said the government had also supplied 41,000 pieces of zinc sheet, costing more than RM15 million, and 2,162 water tanks (RMM5.7 million), as well as provided mobile clinics to look into their health and dental problems. -Bernama
