SWP opts not to engage in war of words with PRS

KUCHING: Sarawak Worker’s Party (SWP) now prefers to remain silent and will not go into counter-bashing with Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

“SWP decides not to rebut all PRS bashing, otherwise it will never end,” a close aide to SWP prime mover and veteran politician Datuk Sng Chee Hua said yesterday.

He said it was up to PRS to make whatever claims they like or say anything about SWP.

“The ballot boxes will tell it all. There’s no point in claiming you have strong support now but you turn out to be the loser during polling day.

“During the last state election (PRS president Tan Sri Dr James) Masing proudly said that George Lagong won’t be able to win Pelagus yet he was proven wrong,” he said.

He said this when asked to respond to the statement by PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun that Sng had resorted to mobilising ‘phantom supporters’ to shore up his public gatherings in Selangau.

Entulu, who is deputy rural and regional development minister, stated that Sng, who had made at least three visits to Selangau last week, had in fact fabricated the actual number of his supporters.

Apparently, the newly registered SWP, while initially claiming to be BN-friendly, had openly revealed that it would be fielding candidates in all six PRS seats; namely Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Kanowit, Selangau and Hulu Rajang in the impending polls.

Sources have it that Sng, in
particular, has been moving actively on the ground to garner support especially in Selangau and Julau parliamentary constituencies which are currently held by Entulu and Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum respectively.
