KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said he planned to keep his succession plan a secret until the time is right.
He said he would not go to town with it also because it was a “private affair” that concerns only the Barisan Nasional (BN).
“I am not going to tell you that (succession plan) because it is our private affair. But when the time comes I will announce and you will see that it will be even better than the DAP succession plan in Kuching.”
Taib said this in response to Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) who interrupted when Taib was delivering his winding-up speech on the final day of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
The chief minister, who is also State BN chairman and PBB president, was about to conclude his speech when Chong stood up and asked whether he had any succession plan in place since
he had promised during the 10th state election last year that he would step down within two years.
At that juncture, Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar intervened and told Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP, that the question was disallowed as it was not a clarification to what the chief minister uttered in his speech. Asfia then asked Taib to proceed.
Taib, who celebrated his 76th birthday on Monday, resumed by blasting the opposition for not knowing the importance of attracting good investment and keeping good ratings to ensure the state and country continued to prosper.
“That is the kind of (ignorant) politics that you (opposition) are famous for,” said Taib, who was, prior to the interruption, on the verge of wishing the Dayak community a Happy Gawai Dayak.
