SARIKEI: Positive moves ought to be initiated if the tiff between BN component parties SPDP and PRS are to be resolved.
SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, who had previously suggested that both sides should hold a peace talk to end the feud, repeated his call after his initiative turned futile on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, Mawan went to Julau to meet members and supporters of both parties, but unfortunately he only managed to meet Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat and his supporters.
Mawan, who later in the evening graced a pre-Gawai gathering organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Pakan Branch at the District Community Hall, told The Borneo Post that for reconciliation effort to be fruitful, all parties involved need to come together to express their views, feelings or even to tender an apology.
“As I had said earlier, two hands are needed to clap, thus any effort to reconcile would not work without both parts taking part.”
Despite his futile effort, Mawan still insisted that `reconciliation’ be given a chance. If it failed, then other options might work.
Believing that there were good reasons which prevented the other party from showing up, Mawan hoped that the opportune time would come soon.
He added that SPDP and PRS should start reconciling instead of spewing unpleasant words at each other as it would worsen the situation.
At the gathering on Saturday, both Mawan and Wong did not give any speech other than just announcing their pledged minor rural projects (MRP) to Pakan SDNU branch.
Mawan also presented educational incentive to members’ children who did well in the public examinations last year.
Also present were District Officer Inting Nyamie, Julau Parliamentary Jasa Liaison Officer Sylvester Embuas, political secretary to the Chief Minister Paul Igai, Meradong Julau District Council secretary Adrian Luang and SDNU branch chairman Tuai Rumah Walter Ahap.
