KUCHING: DAP Sarawak insists that Pakatan Rakyat (Pakatan) should let them contest in Stampin and Miri come the 13th general election.
Its chairman Wong Ho Leng told a press conference yesterday that it was ‘very obvious’ which party should be given certain seats in the coming polls.
Asked if his apparent frustration could be taken to mean that the DAP and PKR could not see eye-to-eye on certain seat arrangements, Wong brushed it off by saying: “There is no dispute and never was there any. This applies to both Stampin and Miri.
“Perhaps, I shall put it this way. It is very obvious which party should be fielded in certain seats,” he said at the DAP headquarters here.
Wong, who is also Sibu MP and Bukit Assek assemblyman, said the DAP Candidate Select Committee would finalise its list on May 6.
He, however, pointed out that the candidate list would not be made public. Only the chosen candidates would be notified.
“In Pakatan, we share the understanding that candidates will be announced only after negotiation concludes.”
The Committee comprises Wong, Chiew Chin Sing, Chong Siew Chiang, Chong Chieng Jen, David Wong, Fong Pau Teck and Ting Tze Fui.
Asked what would happen if negotiation talks among state Pakatan parties stalled, Wong said the normal procedure would be to bring the matter up with the national leaders for a decision.
Wong lamented that state PKR leaders lacked the authority to make the final call, and compounding to the situation is that their de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is too busy for such meetings.
“We (DAP) are busy, but we also have to understand that Anwar is a busy man who hardly have time for seat negotiation talks.
“In any case, we will continue to negotiate with state PKR leaders, and Anwar would be involved if need be.”
