Muhyiddin reminds Malays not to fall for DAP’s tricks

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday reminded the Malays not to be easily fooled by the DAP which he said since its inception, had never championed their interests.

He said the party was now resorting to all kinds of tricks just to gain the support of the Malays.
“Why only now they want to invite the Malays (to join the DAP), I do not know what they are up to, but we know the history of the DAP and this is something the Malays must understand, more so when they stress on the concept of a Malaysian Malaysia. “They say they are not a race-based party and that they are multi-racial, but in terms of practice and what has been done by the DAP since its formation until now, it is very clear that the pary is chauvinist,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Muhyiddin said this in reply to questions from reporters on a statement by DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang that more Malays would be joining the party.

He also questioned why the party was now busy courting the Malays when all this while it never was concerned about their welfare. “So now they realise, when people say they do not have Malay elected representatives. Maybe they are planning to field Malay candidates in some states (in the next election) and are promising them high posts like state executive councillors, heads of government departments or even Menteri Besar,” he said.

Muhyiddin said for long-timers in politics, they knew this was a political gimmick ahead of the election and hoped the Malays would wise up to the DAP’s tricks. “Based on their background, struggle and rhetorics, do they represent the Malays? So don’t be easily duped by the promises they are making with the election just around the corner. “On education matters, they have never voiced out on national education and instead only harp on Chinese education although this has been given the needed attention by the government,” he added. — Bernama
