KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Peter Chin has dismissed talk that he has aligned himself with federal Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

The Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water said he had not distanced himself from the state BN.

Speaking to reporters after a Chinese New Year open house yesterday, Chin said it was inappropriate to tag him a ‘national BN leader’. “That is not correct. And I do not think such a comment should even arise.”

320 delegates attended TDC — Chin

Chin, who is Miri MP, said last month’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) was attended by some 320 delegates. Although he admitted that not all party branches were represented, Chin said the majority were there. “Though not all 500 or so party delegates were present at the TDC, the over 320 delegates represented many branches. “These over 320 delegates elected me even though we did not have an election that day. “It is thus not right to say I was elected because I represented the national BN and not Sarawak BN.”
