KUCHING: Wong Judat still has ample time to withdraw his resignation from Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) before it sits down for its supreme council meeting in about two weeks’ time.
“If Wong has a change of heart, he can always withdraw his resignation,” party president Tan Sri William Mawan said when met yesterday.
He said the supreme council, the party’s decision-making body, would have the final say with regards to Wong’s resignation
“Technically, Wong’s resignation has not come into effect until and after the supreme council has made its decision,” said Mawan.
The Social Development Minister said that at least two attempts had been made to persuade Wong Judat, the Meluan assemblyman and one of the party’s vice-presidents to remain in the party and hoped that he would make a wise decision within these two weeks.
He said that once out of the BN fold it would be very difficult if not impossible for Wong to come back to the ruling coalition.
“He will not be able to join any BN component party. He will have to be with the opposition.
“He will only be accepted by BN if every party within BN comes to a consensus to accept him, which SPDP will object to if he leaves the party,” Mawan said.
Wong resigned from SPDP recently to make good his vow to contest against incumbent Datuk Joseph Salang in Julau if his party – Parti Rakyat Sarawak – were to re-nominate him to defend his seat.
Wong handed in his resignation letter on Aug 7 and then announced that he had submitted his application to join Sarawak Workers Party which has until now, not made any decision or announcement to accept him.
