JOHOR BAHARU: A study has shown that Barisan Nasional (BN) has fulfilled most (87 per cent) of the promises made in its general election manifestos since 1959, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the study by him also showed that on the other hand, the opposition managed to implement only 15 per cent of its promises made in its 2008 general election manifesto.
“They have failed to fulfil 85 per cent of their election manifesto since 2008, which shows they are only good at making promises.”
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Defence Minister, said this to reporters after opening the Pulai Umno division annual delegates’ meeting at Dewan Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat, here, which was also attended by division chief, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
He said the study proved that the BN government was committed to fulfilling its promises made to the people in its election manifestos.
“This is in line with our (BN) slogan, ‘Janji Ditepati’ (Promises Fulfilled). We hope the people will not be taken in by the sweet promises made by the opposition parties as they only know how to make promises,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid also urged PAS to leave Pakatan Rakyat which also includes DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), describing their pact as nothing more than a ‘perkahwinan muta’ah’ (marriage of convenience).
“How could they be cooperating when DAP is like a Chinese opera, PKR like bangsawan play and PAS like desert belly dancers who are exploiting religion for political interest?”
He said PAS’ aim to establish an Islamic state and implement hudud law was also criticised and opposed by their allies in the opposition, especially DAP. — Bernama
