‘BN fair in distribution of country’s wealth’

SARATOK: The second wave of government transformation programme (GTP) will ensure that more development projects would be implemented in the rural areas.

Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan said the impact of this development initiative on the rural folk would be huge, proof that the BN government was fair in the distribution of the country’s wealth unlike what the opposition claimed it to be.

“The opposition is instigating the people to go against the government by twisting facts and amplifying minor issues into big ones,” Mawan said at a leader-meet-the people session at Rumah Kumbung in Sungai Ruan near here over the weekend.

“The people should not let themselves be influenced by the opposition who are only out to fish for votes “ said Mawan, who is also the president of Sarawak Democratic Progressive Party.

He added that the people should know by now who were capable of bringing uninterrupted development to their midst.

Deputy Minister of Transport Jelaing Mersat, who also spoke at the function, said history had proven that only the BN government and its leaders had the capability to take care of people.

“If we take Saratok (constituency) as an example, we can say that about 90 per cent of the basic infrastructural projects have been implemented. Only a few areas are still behind in terms of infrastructural development.

“Most requests will be addressed and fulfilled. If they are not done now, it would be done later. As an MP of Saratok I am entrusted to ensure that development projects are distributed fairly among the people and areas,” he said.

At the same function, he pledged RM8,000 from his minor rural project fund to the Village Security and Development Committee of Rumah Kumbung.

Later, Mawan and Jelaing officially launched a Rural Electrification Scheme project at the longhouse. The longhouse has been supplied with electricity since June this year.
