KUCHING: "Aku enda ngereja sida ya tang aku bisi ngasuh urang bukai ngereja sida ya". (I will not go after them but I can get others to do so).
A Sarawak Workers Party member (SWP) member Agnes Chandu claimed that this was exactly the threat spoken in Iban uttered by a BN assemblyman to her in a telephone call on July 28 around 10pm.
Agnes, 52, who runs a coffee shop in Engkilili bazaar, about four hours drive from here, claimed to have received the phone call while she was at home in Rumah Roy Edward Entalai Selindong, Ulu Engkilili.
She told police she knew the identity of the caller from his mobile number which she stored inside her mobile phone plus the caller also identified himself to her.
“The assemblyman is no stranger to me because he is married to my first cousin,” she told reporters after lodging a police report at Simpang Tiga here yesterday
In the police report, Agnes also claimed that the assemblyman also allegedly men-tioned former Lubok Antu MP Jawah Gerang and Josephine Mawat’s names as possible targets.
SWP legal officer and supreme council member Jonathan Jalin who accompanied Agnes to the police station said the alleged threat amounted to criminal intimidation.
He said the party believed that the assemblyman allegedly used Agnes to warn SWP members and supporters.
“The party feels that it’s better to lodge a police report as a precautionary measure because SWP members are always on the ground outstation.
“This is the first time that we have received such a threat.
“We hope the police will investigate the matter,” he said.
Jonathan claimed that in the phone call, the assemblyman also allegedly expressed his dissatisfaction against SWP for bad-mouthing him.
“We take the phone call seriously and we’re concerned for our members safety,” he said.
