KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) president Larry Sng said the party will apply to be a Barisan Nasional (BN) component if it performs well in the coming 13th general election.
“After the election, we will see the outcome of the election. We will also see at that point, whether we can do a formal application to join BN or we will wait up for a little bit longer,” said Sng, the former Pelagus assemblyman.
He claimed that the party has been supportive of BN since its establishment and has been BN friendly, despite the fact that it will be contesting in all the seats of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).
“First of all, you have to understand that we support most of BN’s policies and we also support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
“We don’t have quarrels with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Sarawak United People’s Party and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party. Our claims are only PRS seats,” Larry told The Borneo Post here recently.
He stated it was the ultimate aim of SWP to replace PRS.
The 33-year-old politician said he felt that there was no contradiction for the party to be BN friendly yet at the same time unfriendly to PRS.
Presently, SWP has a membership of about 10,000, with members predominantly from areas where the party intends to stand in the coming election.
It started its recruitment drive four months ago after its establishment.
The six PRS seats which SWP are targeting are Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang and Selangau.
“We have established 10 divisions and they are all in the PRS areas,” said Sng.
