KUCHING: SUPP’s Bumiputera assemblymen aligned to Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh concurred with Wong’s statement that the party will submit only one candidates’ list for the coming general election.
They said they agreed to leave it to the prime minister to pick the most winnable candidates.
As such, the group’s spokesman Dr Jerip Susil stressed that for the sake of the party and to ensure victory in the seven seats allocated to the party, they had agreed to let the prime minister to have the final say on the party’s candidates.
“After all, SUPP candidates are also BN’s candidates. So we leave it to the prime minister to pick the most winnable candidates for SUPP,” Dr Jerip told The Borneo Post here yesterday.
“Winning all the seats in the coming election is our paramount aim,” said Dr Jerip, who is also SUPP Bengoh branch chairman.
On the differences between the two factions led by Wong and Chin, he said they had been set that aside until after the general election and it was now up to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to decide on the outcome of the internal matters which arose from last year’s TDC.
Dr Jerip’s view was supported by SUPP Sri Aman chairman Datuk Francis Harden, who said that the party was now focusing on winning all the seven seats.
“I suppose both Datuk Seri Peter Chin and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh have come to an agreement on the candidates’ list which is good for the party,” he said.
SUPP Opar chairman and Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina said as far as his group was concerned there was no such thing as Group A’s and Group B’s list of candidates.
“We just want to focus on winning the election. So there is no question on whose candidates would be fielded or dropped. SUPP’s candidates are BN’s candidates,” he said.
Another assemblymen aligned to Wong Dr Johnical Rayong (Engkilili) was not available for comment.
Seven parliamentary seats allocated to SUPP are Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Serian, Sarikei, Bandar Sibu, Lanang and Miri.
