KUCHING: Sixty-seven units of low cost houses have been built in the Pantai Damai constituency since the introduction of the government housing aids project (PBR) scheme in 2010.

Its assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the implementation of PBR scheme to assist low income families own decent homes was proof that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government was a committed, responsible and caring government.

Apart from building new houses under the scheme, the government, he said also granted assistances to eligible families to repair their dilapidated houses.

“Eleven new houses were built in 2020, followed by 41 in 2011 and five so far this year. This shows that we in Pantai Damai constituency have never been left out of the government development programme. The housing scheme is just one of the many ways the government helps low income families registered under e-Kasih,” he said.

He said this when presenting mock keys to the recipients of the PBR houses at Kampung Gersik in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Jaafar Abong, Dayang Maznah Awang Bakar and Mohd Mundu Mahrup from Gersik along with Jemaiah Aziz and Melati Sarbini from Bintawa Tengah each received the mock house keys from Dr Abdul Rahman.

Dr Abdul Rahman also presented an artificial limb and walking frame to Abdul Hamid Hassan, 41, whose left leg was amputated from the knee down last year due to diabetes.

Abdul Hamid, a bachelor working at a private firm here, has to support his elderly mother and nephews.

He said he was most grateful to the government and its elected representatives for their concern over people like himself.

“I hope this artificial limb will allow me to move easily and freely,” said Abdul Hamid also does part time tailoring at the village despite his physical disability.
