SIBU: Eleven community leaders from Kanowit on Wednesday denied an allegation that they supported the activities of Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) in the district.

One of them, Pemanca Spencer Kudang, said whatever Ellison Ludan Muyan, the party’s potential candidate for Kanowit, had said about them giving support to the party should not be believed.

“We only support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Kanowit.

“Whoever the ruling coalition fields in Kanowit in the coming election, he will get our votes,” he told a press conference after a dialogue with Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) division heads and members at a hotel here yesterday.

PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing officiated at the function which was attended by about 200 people.

Kudang said Ellison’s statement during a function at Rumah Ilam Abo in Nanga Tada resettlement scheme on Sunday had given an impression that SWP was getting the support of community leaders in Kanowit.

SWP also claimed that 1,000 people attended the function, he said.

Meanwhile, Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang is likely to face Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) potential candidate Thomas Laja besides Ellison in the coming election.

Ellison and Thomas, both from Nanga Jagau resettlement scheme in Ulu Sungai Ngemah, Kanowit, have expressed their interest to contest in the seat.

Ellison, who is married to a cousin of Aaron’s wife, is a part-time university lecturer while Thomas is a retired headmaster.

It is said that Ellison and Thomas have been going around actively in Kanowit.
