Only PM, CM have the final say — Santubong MP

KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has described as “mere rumours” speculations that he would be dropped in the 13th general election but be appointed Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.

Wan Junaidi, who is also Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, told reporters at Kampung Buntal yesterday that the rumours could be the work of certain groups who were eyeing the seat.

He reasoned that the final decision on BN candidacy rested on both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“There is no confirmation on that matter yet, so it stays as rumours for the moment.”

Wan Junaidi added that if he were dropped, the question that would arise would be the capability of the new face.

“The question of capability of the new candidate is the most important issue to be addressed by the BN should I be dropped.”

However, he said he was keeping an open mind about the whole thing, and would respect whatever decision was meted out by the top BN leadership.

“What is vital is that Santubong remain under BN to ensure a continuation of projects in this constituency.”
