MIRI: Democratic Action Party (DAP) is bringing the election battle into the city with lots of homemade banners to be strung across public spaces during the campaign period for the 13th general election.

“At first, I had wanted to print the banners but decided to go for handmade cloth banners instead, which we will prepare as many as we can,” said Senadin DAP branch chairlady Lim Su Kien during a media briefing at DAP Election Campaign Centre in Krokop recently.

She said at least 300 pieces would be made, and expressed happiness that many people volunteered to help her and the party to prepare the cloth banners.

“It’s much more meaningful to have handmade banners because it will be the result of the people’s effort and involvement in the most important election ever,” said Lim, who is also DAP’s chosen candidate for Miri parliamentary seat currently held by SUPP president Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui.

Lim added that the banners will be written in three languages – Mandarin, Malay, and English – to reflect the multi-racial character of her party as well as the Pakatan Rakyat alliance.

On another note, Lim was happy that the prime minister finally dissolved the Parliament, paving the way for a change in government.

She promised more information “once I receive the nomination letter (from Pakatan Rakyat leaders).”

“The banners will come in handy for the campaign on, and Pakatan is very confident this time,” she added.
