KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday declared the party is not having any major problems following the announcement of the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way to the 13th general election.
Instead, he said, the party is ready to face the election and is confident it will win all the 14 seats it is contesting in, assisting BN to win the minimum 24 seats as indicated by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
“Even if there are problems in the party, they are not really major ones. They are normal ones in any election. At the end of the day, BN will sweep all the 24 seats as indicated.
“Therefore, it is not impossible if we can wrest back the other three ‘grey’ seats and win 27 seats,” said Abang Johari when met at the welcome ceremony of Malindo Air at Kuching International Airport here yesterday.
On a related issue, Abang Johari pointed out that all the constituencies under the party are white areas including Mambong.
“There were many speculations saying that Mambong is a grey area but it is not. Mambong is a white area like any other PBB’s constituencies,” he reiterated.
He also added that the party will be helping other component parties during the election.
“Basically, we are helping our component parties, in the spirit of Barisan Nasional. In Serian for instance, we will be helping the candidate there as the two DUN constituencies belong to PBB,” he said.
On the party campaigning strategy, he refused to elaborate saying that he could not reveal it until the Election Commission has announced the polling date.
Responding to a question, Abang Johari said the party will not hesitate to sack disloyal members who were found to be actively sabotaging the party during the election.
“If there are any, we will sack them. The discipline must be there,” he asserted.
