GE13: Mongin spells out agenda

KUCHING: PKR’s Mambong candidate Willie Mongin said his immediate plans for the electorate, if he wins and Pakatan Rakyat takes over Putrajaya, would include the issuance of native customary rights (NCR) land titles to all deserving villages and individuals.

He said land was very important to the natives and they deserved to have the legal documents to indicate their total rights over them.

Mongin said about 60 Bidayuh villages had successfully documented their NCR land under the Dayak Bidayuh National Association’s (DBNA) initiative, but only two had been issued with titles.

“Even then it (title) only acknowledges the pemakai menoa (the area from which its members find sustenance) but not the temuda (secondary forests) and pulau galau (land reserved for communal use).”

Willie said another focus of his would be the construction of roads to several villages in upper Puncak Borneo, including the four villages affected by the construction of the Bengoh dam.- thestar online
