The Registrar of Societies has sent a letter to the DAP headquarters last night to inform the party that it can use its symbol in the GE.
JOHOR BARU: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has issued a letter to the DAP last night, informing that the party is allowed to use its Rocket symbol in the 13th general election.
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang told reporters at the sidelines of the candidates nomination today that ROS had sent the letter to DAP at 9.30pm last night.
“They said that since investigations (on the dispute surrounding DAP party elections) is going to take one month, ROS would not impose any hindrance to us in using the party symbol in 13th GE,” Kit Siang said.
Kit Siang said the ROS’s letter allows all DAP candidates to use their own party symbol in the nominations today.
On Thursday, ROS had sent a letter to DAP informing them that the party’s central executive committee (CEC) elected last December would not be recognised due to alleged disputes surrounding the election process.
The party, fearing that its candidates would be rejected if they used the DAP symbol to file in their nomination papers, had then come to an understanding with its Pakatan Rakyat partners to use PAS’ moon symbol in Peninsular Malaysia and PKR’s eye symbol in Sabah and Sarawak.
Yesterday party secretary general Lim Guan Eng said that DAP candidates would first try to submit their nominations with the Rocket symbol but if rejected by the election officers, they would then use either PAS or PKR symbols.
However the late night letter from ROS has solved the problem for the party.
Kit Siang said he submitted his nomination papers using the DAP symbol this morning without facing any problems. - FMT
