It’s Rubiah Wang for Kota Samarahan

KUCHING: PBB, the backbone of the state BN, will field Asajaya district officer Rubiah Wang in Kota Samarahan in the 13th general election.

Its deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg told a press conference this yesterday after meeting members of Sarawak Housing Real Estates Developers Association (Sheda).

The Kota Samarahan incumbent is Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, a son of the chief minister.

Abang Johari added that PBB would only be fielding “one new candidate”, and this means all its other incumbents would be retained for the polls.

“As of now, PBB has only one new candidate and that is Rubiah Wang in Kota Samarahan.”

Asked about the possibility of a last minute change to the party’s candidates or whether incumbents would be dropped, Abang Johari replied: “Wait until the Nomination Day”.

There are 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak and PBB is allocated 14.

On the announcement of dissolution of Parliament by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday, Abang Johari said he hoped the people would exercise their election rights rationally.

“I hope the election will be held peacefully.”

He opined that the people should give another mandate to the Barisan Nasional (BN) in order to turn the country into a high economy and high income society.

“While we practise democracy we should also, at the same time, protect the vision of high economy and peace,” said Abang Johari, who is also Minister of Tourism.
