SRI AMAN: The promises of development by Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) lack substance because their leaders failed to perform when they were in a position of power.

Voters, especially those in Sri Aman, should therefore be wary of all promises offered by the year-old party, said Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development on Monday.

Speaking at a ‘Leaders-meet-the-people’ session in Rumah Donald Martin, Abok Mawang in Pantu, Entulu said SWP president Larry Sng used to be the Pelagus assemblyman while his father and party advisor Datuk Sng Chee Hua is a former MP for Julau but their performances were dismal.

“They failed to keep their promise on development for their respective constituencies during their tenure as the people’s representative.

“Both constituencies (Pelagus and Julau) have never experienced development under them.”

Hence, Entulu said, voters must question all promises offered by SWP.

On Sri Aman constituency, Entulu called for strong support for BN candidate and incumbent Masir Kujat.

“I hope that the rakyat are not confused by the presence of those who claim that they are future candidates of BN,” he said, adding that Masir had discharged his responsibilities well in Sri Aman.

At the ceremony, Entulu, who is also Selangau MP, also announced an allocation of RM7,000 to Rumah Donald Martin’s Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) and RM6,000 to its women bureau.

Another RM100,000 was allocated for the construction of a concrete road in front of their longhouse.

Among those present at the event were Senate deputy president Senator Datuk Sophia Dorris Brodie, Assistant
Minister of Agriculture (Research and Marketing) Datuk Mong Dagang, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Native Customs and Penan Affairs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai and Masir.
