BN has a mountain to climb in Mas Gading?

KUCHING: It will take a miracle for the Barisan Nasional (BN) to win Mas Gading if it stuck to its decision to field Anthony Nogeh Gumbek from SPDP in the May 5 general election, claimed former SPDP Tasik Biru secretary Nicholas Kudang Garia.

He said most people in the predominantly Bidayuh parliamentary constituency was still rooting for Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe, who is now partyless following his sacking from SPDP more than a year ago for gross insubordination.

Kudang said many voters in Mas Gading were “shocked and surprised” that Dr Tiki was not picked to defend the seat as a direct BN candidate.

“The people are now getting worried because SPDP in Mas Gading is no longer as strong as it was two or three years back.

“After the sacking of Datuk Dr Tiki and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, the party (SPDP) literally fell apart and lost ground in Mas Gading,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Kudang said SPDP’s claim to have strong ground support in the constituency was nonsense.

“I was told that the party can’t even get enough quorum to form a branch in Opar (one of the state seats under Mas Gading besides Tasik Biru).

“This again clearly shows that the party does not have strong support on the ground as claimed.”

To prevent Mas Gading from falling into the hands of the opposition, Kudang hoped that Dr Tiki would stand as an independent candidate.

“We hope Datuk Dr Tiki will be bold enough to take up our challenge and stand as an Independent candidate.

“The silent majority will all rally for him to ensure that he continues to be their MP for at least another term.” - theborneopost
