SWP set for polls, says Wong Judat

FINAL PREPARATIONS: Wong (right) in a discussion with several grassroots leaders at SWP’s Julau main operations room yesterday.

SARIKEI: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) is now gearing up for the 13th general election, which may be held anytime soon.

Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat, who recently left Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) to join SWP and was appointed one of its vice-presidents, said SWP had already set up an operations room each in Pakan and Meluan and a main operations room at Li Hua Hotel here.

Met at the main operations room here yesterday, Wong said they were in the midst of forming an election committee and setting up an election machinery.

“Our party’s representatives are now actively moving on the ground looking for individuals from among the voters and supporters in P.209 Julau to be recruited into our election machinery as polling agents, counting agents, campaign workers and so forth,” he said.

Wong, who himself had been tipped to be the party’s candidate in Julau, said SWP’s candidate for the seat had been finalised.

However, not wanting to jump the gun on candidacy, Wong said the matter would be announced by the top party leadership at a longhouse in Julau in the next few days.
