‘Raise Sarawak’s problems in Parliament if you are concerned

SIBU: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang’s recent claim that Sarawak is still besieged with problems after 49 years in Malaysia is aimed at swaying voters, said Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.

What Lim had said was without substance, Abdul Karim commented, puzzled why he did not raise the matter in Parliament nor brought it to the finance minister.

He said the DAP senior leader was either blind or ignorant of the fact that Sarawak was a big state, almost the size of the peninsula.

“When Lim Kit Siang comes here, he laments the shortcoming and infrastructure problems faced by Sarawak and Sabah. But I have yet to hear him (Lim) fight for Sarawak and Sabah in Parliament.

“What he will raise up are more on issues to run down and discredit the government,” Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development told The Borneo Post.

Lim was quoted as saying in Mas Gading last Saturday during a political campaign that after 49 years in Malaysia, Sarawak still faced problems, including that of infrastructure.

Abdul Karim responded: “Lim and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are the same. When in Sarawak… so much is said to show they care for us… that they care for the natives… that they are concerned for our lack of infrastructure… our backwardness, and so on. But when they are back home, not a word is said about us Sarawak.”

He challenged both of them to declare in their speeches in Parliament or roadshows their commitment to redirect all infrastructure development to Sarawak and Sabah if they (the opposition) made headway in this general election.

“But he (Lim) dares not because all the remarks are meant to sway voters and without substance!”

When asked on Budget 2013 to be tabled in Parliament on Sept 28, Abdul Karim said he expected the national budget to be all inclusive, covering not just development of youth and sports but “every aspect of development and expenditure in managing the country.”
