1MB Club describes opposition pact as modern-colonialist stooge

GEORGE TOWN: The 1Malaysia Brother’s (1MB) Club has described the opposition’s move to scare the people by saying that Penang will be destroyed if Barisan Nasional (BN) were to win back the state, as an act of modern-colonialist stooge.

Instead, patron of the non-governmental organisation, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, said it was the opposition pact who should be scared as they had failed to keep most of their promises to the people.

“The people in Penang have seen for themselves that there are so many issues left unsolved, including the sale of land, construction of low-cost houses and petty traders,” he told reporters after the launch of 1MB Club in Bukit Saujana, Paya Terubong, Saturday night.

The event was attended by about 2,500 people, including state opposition leader Datuk Azhar Ibrahim who is also Penang Umno secretary, Penang MIC chief L Krishnan and Penang Wanita MCA chief Tan Cheng Liang.

On the Penang Municipal Council’s move to lower BN and Jalur Gemilang flags in conjunction with the launch of 1MB Club, Hamzah said the opposition pact was worried that the people would continue giving their support to BN.

Hamzah, who is also Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said the 1MB Club comprised the local people of various race and religions pledging to decide the future of the state and to support the leaders who can keep their promises.

He said 25,000 membership forms had been distributed to the people across the state so far, 16,300 of whom had registered as members. — Bernama
