We don’t use money politics, says PBB

MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) brushed aside claims by the opposition that Barisan Nasional (BN) is using ‘money politics’ to win the Balingian by-election.

PBB supreme council member Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the accusation was mere speculation with no evidence to support it.

“BN and PBB believe that the people of Balingian will not be easily influenced by the opposition tactic to get votes,” Dr Abdul Rahman told The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to him, the opposition knows the people of Balingian will reject them, so come up with allegations that include money politics.

He hoped the opposition party would be fair and contest in a gentlemanly way during the election, not merely condemn and claim the BN government is not good for the people.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said the opposition cannot do anything to develop Balingian while the BN government is sincere in helping it. He therefore urged the people to come out in full force to support the BN candidate.

Meanwhile, State PKR treasurer Dr Teo Yu Keng claimed BN was using ‘money politics’ in the Balingian by-election to get the constituents to vote for the BN candidate.

He claimed that directly or indirectly BN is announcing projects they had neglected for 50 years and giving BR1M to people in Balingian.

“Don’t be cheated by BN as they did not carry through their promises until this by-election, when they try to woo the people to vote BN,” Dr Teo said of the recent BN campaign to win the Balingian seat.

Former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud vacated the seat to make way for new blood to helm Parti Pesaka Bumiputer Bersatu (PBB), the backbone of state BN.

Tan Sri Adenan Satem was appointed chief minister to replace Taib Mahmud recently.

According to Dr Teo, BN used money politics in the form of land titles given to Kampung Telian, a new airport to be built in Mukah and the upgrading of its hospital.

He claimed that eventhough the transaction of money was not seen, the people realised that BN was pumping more money to fulfill the promises of projects to Balingian in this campaigning election.

Dr Teo who is also PKR Miri chief said the chances of PKR winning the seat was bright and the people must give their support.

Commenting on the Kajang by-election, he said the people of Kajang were brave in deciding who would be their wakil rakyat as shown by Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR) winning the seat against Chew Mei Fun (BN).

He said the people of Kajang wanted PKR and rejected BN. - theborneopost
