MIRI: Danger lurks around Tamu Muhibbah here due to poor maintenance of the place.

PKR Miri chairman Dr Michael Teo, DAP Senadin chairlady Lim Su Kien, PKR Sarawak Youth secretary Zulhaidah Subuh and their colleagues paid a joint visit to the market to have a closer look at its condition recently.

“What we saw is rather shocking – the electrical power supply sockets were broken, the wires exposed and left dangling from a pillar,” said Lim.

She urged the authority to look into the matter quickly before any untoward incidents happened.

Another danger was posed by the water pipes left exposed on the market floor which Lim said was danger waiting to happen.

“During busy times when there is a crowd, some people may not see the pipes sticking out from the ground, and stumble over them accidentally – they should be removed or covered securely,” she added.

Another complaint was received from an elderly vendor on the ceiling that dripped water due to a broken pipe, causing much difficulty during rainy days.

Lim highlighted the dangers within the market at a press conference held recently in her service centre.
