SPDP confident BN will win big in Miri

MIRI: Members of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Miri, Pujut and Piasau branches, including those from its Putera and Puteri wings, are optimistic that Barisan Nasional (BN) will win big in the May 5 election.

Expressing the optimism, Piasau branch vice president II Sukhpal Singh said they were in high spirits and would organise various activities throughout the campaigning period to meet the people.

“We are confident of BN’s victory with a handsome majority,” he replied when asked by The Borneo Post of their view and hope for BN’s candidate in Miri in the coming polls.

The candidate, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), is facing Dr Michael Teo Yu Kheng of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Chong Kon Fatt of State Reform Party (STAR) in a three-cornered fight in the 13th general election (GE13).

Saying they always looked at the bright side of things, Sukhpal expressed confidence that Ting would win the seat with a resounding victory.

On their plans, he said party members would conduct house-to-house campaigns as soon as they had the materials from SUPP headquarters here.

“Right now we are concentrating on manning the operations room in front of the former Chartered Bank (opposite the Imperial Mall),” Sukhpal, who is also the operations room director, revealed.

At the same time, he appealed to all voters in Piasau state constituency and elsewhere to come in full force on polling day to exercise their democratic right as responsible citizens of the country “to determine not only the fate of the candidate but also our fate, our children’s fate and the fate of the society in general”.

“The ruling government is great in numerous ways and the infrastructures we are enjoying today are some of the fantastic gifts it gave to us,” Sukphal asserted in rallying support for BN.-theborneopost
