KUCHING: The appointment of Datuk Richard Riot Jaem as a full minister has been described as ‘historic’ for the Bidayuh community in the state by Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong.
“We are very thankful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for appointing Datuk Richard Riot as a full minister. As a leader of the Bidayuh community, it’s history in the making for us,” Manyin told The Borneo Post here last night.
Hailing from the same village with Riot – Kpg Pichin in Serian- Manyin said the elevation of Riot as a full minister would mean that both of them now would have to serve both the state and country in greater capacity.
“It means that we have to serve the state and country. For Datuk Richard Riot, the real challenge is to serve the whole country,” added Manyin who is also the chief advisor of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).
Riot has been appointed the new Minister of Human Resource from his previous post as deputy foreign minister.
On the appointment of Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit as the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Manyin described it as most appropriate since he is an expert in environmental matters.
Manyin was also delighted that the state was given seven full ministers, saying that the state had been finally rwarded for being the ‘fixed deposit’ for the Barisan Nasional (BN).
Besides Riot, other full ministers from Sarawak are Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas (PBB), Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun (PRS), Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim (PBB), Datuk Fadillah Yusof (PBB), Nancy Shukri (PBB) and Datuk Seri Idris Jala (senator/non-political).
Besides Dawos, other deputy ministers are Datuk Joseph Salang (PRS), Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (PBB).-theborneopost
