PBB Youth, Wanita to have more exco members

KUCHING: PBB is now looking into expanding the size of its Wanita and Youth executive committees to accommodate 50 members.

At present, there are 15 elected posts and seven appointed posts respectively in the two wings.

PBB constitutional committee chairman Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar said a motion would be moved at the upcoming PBB Convention to amend the party’s constitution to enable the Wanita and Youth wings to have more elected and appointed members.

“The proposed amendment will involve increasing the number of elected posts to 31, and appointed posts to 19. The notice of motion had been tendered to the secretary-general of the party to enable the motion to be debated at the PBB Convention on October 21,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He made this announcement after revealing that the Youth movement would see the biggest number of contestants vying for posts in the executive committee despite the top two posts not being contested.

Asfia said there was a need to expand the size of the executive committees due to growing enthusiasm among members at the ground level, and also to accommodate the smaller ethnic groups so that they have a voice in the party.

“This is to accommodate the smaller ethnic groups, otherwise, they are not represented in the party. Our party constitution points to that understanding.”

On another matter, Asfia, who is also the 13th PBB Convention election committee chairman, said the deadline for nominations to contest posts in the main body’s supreme council is today (Oct 14) at 5pm.

He mentioned this to clear the air following earlier inaccurate news reports regarding contests in the supreme council.

“The deadline is at 5pm tomorrow (today), and the casting of lot is Oct 16 at 11am. Any speculation before that will be premature.” - theborneopost
