BELAGA: The road from Bakun to Belaga is expected to be completed in two months’ time with the Belaga Bridge already in place to link Bakun side to Belaga town.

From Bakun, the RM6.2 million project consisting of a few small bridges along the way and ends with the biggest bridge – Belaga Bridge – a bailey bridge which is about five minutes drive from Belaga town.

The Bakun-Belaga project started end of 2011 and would be completed without any delay, said Assistant Minister of Social Development and Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang who inspected the bridge’s progress yesterday.

He said the 37-km Bakun-Belaga road will be passing by at least eight longhouse settlements along its way.

After the completion of the bridge, Bakun and Belaga will be linked by road for the first time.

Meanwhile, the people would still be using a logging track to travel between the two destinations. It takes 12 hours to travel from Sg Asap to Belaga using the track.

“The road will bring much convenience to Belaga folks as well as residents of the eight longhouse settlements along the way,” said Liwan. - theborneopost
