SWP undecided on BN-friendly stance

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers’ Party (SWP) said ground discussions among party members and supporters are ongoing to finalise the party’s stand on whether they should be Barisan Nasional-friendly or otherwise.

According to its press statement issued yesterday, SWP organised a division gathering in Kapit led by president Larry Sng last Saturday and among the topics discussed was its position regarding BN.

Apart from that, the SWP Pelagus Branch passed several resolutions and set up their youth division youth wing.

Sng welcomed about 40 youth members who included SWP chief Dickson George.

Dickson in his welcoming address said: “We cannot change the world but surely we can make a better living. Youths today are faced with different kind of challenges, for example opportunities for knowledge and skills development, unemployment and lack of good youth leadership among other things.”

The Youth division was also seeking to utilise SWP Youth Group as a platform where youth can be developed and contribute their knowledge and skills in a positive way.

“Our Youth (division) will be run by youths and focus on organising an activity after-school programmes to keep the young out of the streets and unhealthy activities,” said Dickson, who is the son of deputy party president cum Pelagus assemblyman George Lagong. - theborneopost
