Fourth fire in a month in Sibu

SIBU: No casualties were reported in the fourth fire here within a month which broke out on the second floor of a double-storey shophouse at Channel Road around 1.30pm yesterday.

Sibu Zone Bomba chief Abdul Mutalib Rashid led 27 firemen to the scene in three fire-engines at 1.40pm after receiving a call at 1.37pm.

“We managed to put out the fire in 25 minutes,” he said. The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.

The shophouse affected is about 100 metres away from Blacksmith Road where 16 shophouses were razed by fire on July 15.

On July 16, a fire that broke out just past midnight destroying a row of wooden houses at Lane 13, Tiong Hua Road.

Earlier on June 19, a fire caused 60 houses in Kampung Datu/Kampung Hilir to be razed to the ground.- theborneopost
