SUPP might use new method in candidate selection — Dr Sim

KUCHING: SUPP secretary general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian believes the party may adopt a more democratic approach in nominating candidates for the upcoming state election.

“One way suggested is to nominate candidates following the style of Taiwan, where 50 per cent of votes are determined by voters and the other half is determined by members of the party,” Dr Sim told reporters on the sidelines of a function here on Saturday night.

His remarks came in the light of a recent decision to improve the party’s image to gain more seats in the upcoming state polls.

“The previous (and current) method of nominating candidates might prove to be good for the party but not for individuals,” he explained.

Dr Sim, who is also SUPP Pending chairman, stressed the method might ease the internal unrest and prompt the party to move in a cohesive and united direction with minimal in-fighting. - theborneopost
