SIBU: The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will be represented by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) at the Balingian by-election which is necessitated by the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

PKR national Women vice-president Voon Shiak Ni told a press conference yesterday that the PR had decided in a recent meeting to let PKR contest in the by-election.

Voon, who is also the party’s Stampin branch vice-chairman, said PKR Lanang chairman George Chen and other members were very much into the preparation for the tussle with Barisan Nasional.

She expressed confidence that PKR would do better this time than when it last contested for the Balingian seat.

“The Democratic Action Party (DAP), Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) will work together with us as a team.

“Our election machinery is ready,” she enthused.

Voon said the party’s election operation centre would be launched soon.

With her at the press conference were PBK secretary Rali Wong, assistant secretary Yu Chin Liik, Chen and deputy chairman Ang Ki. - theborneopost
