KUCHING: The state government’s policies in protecting the interest of its people will remain the same under incoming Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem.

Outgoing Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said when the time comes for Adenan to lead the state, it would be a seamless transition.

“Don’t be worried. He (Adenan) has been working with me like Soon Koh (Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh).

“He can do anything to develop whatever policies we have and he understands all these things, so there will be quite a seamless transition,” he said at the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division’s Chinese Association Chinese New Year cum 35th Annniversary Celebration Appreciation Dinner held here on Sunday.

Taib told those present that when he stepped down this coming Friday, it would not mean that whatever he had carved out for the state would cease.

“We plan all this together, and when I retire I’m sure those in the government can continue to carry out its policies and vision.

“Perhaps, some of the younger guys in the government can start something much better gradually, and I believe this is good for Sarawak as it means we can do things continuously without interruption.”

Taib also expressed his confidence in the state’s multi-racial leaders who are capable of distinguishing what is good for Sarawak and its future.

“I do believe that our leaders, regardless of race, know what is safe, what is fair, and what is good for our state.

“Therefore, I believe the state will be well looked after from one generation to another if we continue to stay united.”

During the double celebration, Taib also took the opportunity to present a state government grant of RM100,000 to the association.

Among those present were his wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Wong, Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Association president Temenggong Lu Kim Yong, Foochow Association Kuching president Wong Tiong Hook, Federation of Community Associations of Kuching Division president Datuk Sim Swee Yong and Vice Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Liu Dongyuan. - theborneopost
