PKR wants accord on peaceful transition of power

June 6, 2012, Wednesday

KUCHING: The state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has suggested that an accord be signed between the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that neither party will cause any disruptions to peace and harmony in the country after the 13th general election (GE13).

Sarawak PKR vice-chairman See Chee How (Pic) said he agreed with Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim that there should not be any disruptions and disorder before or after the election.

“Rais Yatim was asking Pakatan (PR) to be gentleman after the election and that there should not be any disruptions to peace and harmony in the country after the election.

“I agree that there should not be disharmony after the election, but I think it will be even better if BN is willing to sign a gentleman accord with Pakatan Rakyat that everything will be peaceful after the election,” he said.

See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, told a media conference here yesterday that it was therefore their hope that BN government would be willing to sign the agreement with PR.

“I think it is good if BN is bold enough and willing to sign the gentleman accord with the Pakatan Rakyat that any losing party will abide by the decision of the voters including the surrendering of power to the winning coalition,” he said.

See added that to ensure peace and harmony if there were to be a the transfer of power, both parties should sign a commitment to peaceful transition of power.
