Feuding parties in SPDP loyal to BN: Taib

Posted on January 12, 2012, Thursday

KUCHING: The feuding parties in the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) remain loyal to the Barisan Nasional (BN) and, as such, the problem is not widespread, Sarawak BN chairman Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said today. He said the loyalty prevailed despite four of the SPDP elected representatives having left the party and one being sacked. “I do believe both sides are very devoted to playing a role in BN. None of them want to even think outside of the BN,” he told reporters after launching the Integrity Day of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), here.

The four elected representatives who left the party effective last Saturday are state assemblymen Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie (Tasik Biru), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau) and Mas Gading Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe.

SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan, after a supreme council meeting last November, announced the expulsion of Marudi state assemblyman Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran from the party for insubordination.

Since then, the group that was once dubbed “SPDP 5″ as well as “Rentap”, which was coined from the first letter of their names, had announced the formation of the Barisan Nasional Club in their respective constituencies.

Taib, who is Sarawak chief minister and BN state chairman, said that while he had no details yet of the club’s role, he believed that it could be a sign that “no matter what problem they faced within the party, they want to show that they were elected as representatives of the BN”. “As far as I am concerned, these people can still function like before,” he replied when asked whether the State BN endorsed the formation of the club. – Bernama
